The Singing for Health Initiative is an inclusive intergenerational choir program that is open to anyone who loves to sing. It is designed to be a safe and friendly environment, inclusive for people of all abilities. The goal is to reduce social isolation of older adults and those with disabilities, encourage communication and expression, and provide a space where families and community members can have positive experiences together regardless of age and/or diagnosis. The choir will meet weekly to participate in vocal health exercise and learn/practice songs. The repertoire will include a variety of styles and genres. Choir members are encouraged to make suggestions as well. The music therapist will encourage discussion and reflect about the songs chosen. At the end of this pilot program, the choir will perform the practiced songs or any community audience members who would like to come!

This project is generously funded by the Dufferin Community Foundation and a collaboration between the Alzheimer Association of Dufferin and Julia’s Place Music Therapy. The rehearsal and show space is generously donated by the Tweedsmuir Memorial Presbyterian Church
